Also renderer-wise I fear that Redshift is not as awesome as FStorm. The only thing keeping me from switching is that I mainly use 3ds max for product viz which sometimes requires large CAD files, and the learning curve for Houdini is so steep. And it has freaking node-based- everything. Look at Houdini, a freaking masterpiece of a program. I've been using 3d Studio Max for a long time and in my wildest fantasies they'll take all the money I've given them, start from square one with a new program that is built with broad application in mind (archviz, modeling, game design, VFX), make scenes and plugins easily portable from 3dsmax and sell it for a reasonable price. Now they just hog the market, releasing new updates every year that are either bought plug-ins or poorly integrated solutions. They bought up the competition, and most good plugins are exclusive to Max or at least best on Max, so there is sadly little incentive for a freelance viz artist like me to switch to any other package.
